What do I need to wear skiing?
ok, Im going skiing for the first time next month and im pretty clueless about what to wear.
I know you rent the ski-boots and skis, right?
What about the coat? Can I just wear any water resistant down coat, like a puffy one, or does it have to be something specifically for skiing?
I dont want to go out and buy a bunch of clothes that ill never wear again, what are the essentials?

Yes. You rent boots and skis. You can even rent jackets and ski pants and helmets at some places. It depends on what coat you have. If you post a link to the website for your jacket I'll tell you if it will work. But It has to be water-proof, it can be "puffy" but an insulated shell is what most people use. It has to come down well below the top of your ski pants. None of those short jackets are meant for skiing. Here are the things you seed. You can look at the links and see if you have some stuff already that will work.
-Under armour or warm base layer
-Fleece or sweatshirt
-waterproof shell or insulated jacket
-pants base layer like running tights, long underwear, or actual ski base layer
-You may want sweat pants too, depending on if your ski pants are insulated
-Waterproof snow pants
-SKI socks (not soccer socks and dont wear two pairs of socks)
-A helmet is always a really good idea. You can rent them from some ski shops when you rent skis.
-WATERPROOF gloves (if its really cold wear a pair of knit gloves under them)
-Goggles
It doesn't have to be expensive, official ski gear. so here are suggestions of things that wll work fine and aren't expensive.

These are all really good brands. Other than the target stuff I guess. But it will work fine. If you want something better go for underarmour heavyweight.
Other good brands are Nothface, Marmot, Spyder, Obermeyer, Burton, Columbia, and a lot of brands you can find on backcountry.com.

ps- don't use poles the first time you ski. it's a common mistake and it can be dangerous for beginners. Poles are used when you learn to parallel turn. Which you don't do as a beginner.
1 THING TO THE LAST PERSON WHO POSTED: A scarf is a really bad Idea. They get caught on the lift and you are much better of using a neck gaiter or ski mask.
