snow boards

The sport of snowboarding is a growing sport hence the large variety of snowboard brands available. There are literally hundreds of brands that sell snowboards and the related gear and equipment. This rapid increase in snowboard equipment is down to the popularity of the sport at the Olympics and many extreme sports events. It is skiings hip younger brother and the winter cousin of skateboarding so there is no wonder that the amount of brands on offer is likely to be large. This article will list some good snowboard brands and some things to look out for before purchasing a board or other related gear.

Renting Before Purchase

Possibly the best way to select your snowboard is to try before you buy. As most winter sports equipment is expensive, most snow resorts and ski shops allow people to rent out most of the equipment. You can get pretty much anything you want but the biggest costing equipment, in terms of snowboarding is the board. It makes sense to rent before buying as you can firstly confirm that snowboarding is the sport for you. You can then test out various boards and get a feel for the type of board that is right for you and even the brand.

Most people will go for an all rounder or all mountain board. This will allow you to free ride up and down the mountain and generally learn the ropes. It will also allow you to tackle moguls and jumps. Other boards, made for the half pipe, are shorter. Some boards are made for speed and will have less of a curved edge and will be longer. Others will have a more carved edge and will make turning easier. Again if you are a beginner, you probably don't need to worry about this too much. The important thing is to get an all mountain board based on your weight and height. Men's boards are different to Women's in terms of length. They will also have different designs but there is nothing stopping either sex from using the others boards. Children also have different boards based on their size.

Some Common Snowboard Brands

Some of the common snowboard brands are Burton, Rome, Flow, K2, Arbor, Salomon, Rossignol, Elan, Nidecker and GNU.

If you are looking for all mountain boarding then you can't go past snowboards like Rome Anthem, Flow Team, Arbor Element and many of the Burton snowboards. They are popular for both experienced and beginner because they can be used in most environments.

For the top snowboard brands, you can expect to pay up to $500 to $1000. The expensive boards are often highly specialized boards that are made for tight turns or speed riding. These types of boards will often get cheaper at the end of the snow season. They can drop by up to 30% at the end of the season so it will pay to hold off buying your snowboard. You can find a large selection of boards online these days. It is often hard to buy a board online because you want to touch and feel it so it is a good idea to try out the board you are thinking about buying first. Either rent one or one that is of a similar dimension and riding style.
