How often should i sharpen (edge)and wax my skis?
I ski twice a week for a race team for 2 hours, i was wondering, based on the amount of use, how much will they need to be waxed and edged?
If you are a competitive skiier, which it seems you are, you should keep your gear in top condition.
I would suggest definitely waxing with a universal coat for base prep, then temperature specific wax every day you race. Especially if temps are changing. Warm wax will slow you down in cold snow. If it's too much work to get your skis waxed with the right temp on race day, you might benefit from Swix liquid glide, although it will not last as long. I'm trying to see if it's worth it by asking people around the net, because I've never actually tried it myself
For edge sharpening, I would definitely recommend removing burrs and nicks and polishing edges before every race, or even before each of your runs during the race. For real sharpening and setting your edge angles, you should not have to do this every day, as you would wear down your edges a lot. Maybe once every couple of weeks, my coach recommended once or twice a month, but I would recommend a little bit more than that. If you use a proper file guide, you should not need to set your angles every day.
